Eljada Kairos – Oudtshoorn

Die Eljada Kairos Skool is ‘n skool vir leerders met spesiale onderwysbehoeftes. Die skool bied onderrig aan leerders wat primêr verstandelik gestremd is, asook sekondêre gestremdhede het soos fisiese gestremdheid, serebrale verlamming, Spina Bifida Sindroom, ADHD, spraakprobleme, ens. Die skool het ook ‘n eenheid vir leerders op die Outistiese Spektrum.

Die leerders in die skool kom hoofsaaklik uit swak sosio-ekonomiese omstandighede waar ouers afhanklik is van toelae om te oorleef.

Die skool bied onderrig aan 275 leerders binne die Klein Karoo streek, waarvan 65 leerders in die koshuis woon. Leerders word blootgestel aan Gr. R tot Gr. 5 akademiese inhoud binne hul vermoëns.

Vanaf 14 jarige ouderdom leer hulle die volgende vaardighede aan: landbou studies, houtwerk, gasvryheidstudies, kuns & kunsvlyt en instandhouding. Die doel is om leerders meer onafhanklik te maak in die samelewing, asook om basiese vaardighede vir hulle aan te leer sodat hulle werk onder toesig kan verrig.

Missie van die skool:

  • Om ‘n gunstige inklusiewe leeromgewing te voorsien waarin ‘n effektiewe en toepaslike kurrikulum aangebied word;
  • Gespesialiseerde ondersteuningsdienste te verskaf;
  • Deelname aan sport – , godsdiens – , kulturele – en ontspanningsaktiwiteite te bevorder;
  • Die leerder te begelei tot optimale onafhanklikheid;
  • Waardes te vestig; en
  • Ouers by die gemeenskap te betrek.

Die skool is baie afhanklik van fondsinsamelingsprojekte en donasies ten einde die beste onderrig aan die leerders te bied, vervoer aan leerders te verskaf, leerders aan provinsiale sportbyeenkomste te laat deelneem en koshuis inwoning te bied.

The Eljada Kairos School is a school for learners with special educational needs. The school provides education for learners who are primarily mentally handicapped as well as those who have secondary disabilities such as physical disability, cerebral palsy, Spina Bifida Syndrome, ADHD, speech difficulties, etc. The school also has a unit for learners on the Autistic Spectrum.

The learners in the school mainly come from poor socio-economic circumstances where parents depend on grants to survive.

The school offers education to 275 learners within the Klein Karoo region, of which 65 learners live in the hostel. Learners are exposed to Gr. R to Gr. 5 academic content within their capabilities.

From the age of 14 they learn the following skills: agricultural studies, woodworking, hospitality studies, arts & crafts and maintenance. The aim is to make learners more independent in society, as well as to teach them basic skills so that they can perform supervised work.

Mission of the school:

  • To provide a favourable inclusive learning environment in which an effective and appropriate curriculum is offered;
  • Provide specialised support services ;
  • Promote sports – , religion – , cultural – and recreational activities;
  • Guide learners to optimal independence;
  • Teach important values; and
  • Involve parents in the community.

The school depends heavily on fundraising projects and donations to provide the best education to the learners, provide transport for the learners, allow the learners to participate in provincial sporting events and provide a hostel.
